Police have recovered the bodies of a mother and her four-year-old daughter from their residence in Mirzapur, Tangail. The bodies were recovered on Friday morning from Dhupuria village in Anaitara union of the upazila.

The deceased are Kanika Akhter, 22, wife of Rajib Hossain, a mason from Dhupuria village, and their four-year-old daughter Rajia.

Local sources said Rajib and Kanika were married about six years ago through a romantic relationship. Locals said there had been marital discord between them since the marriage.

On Thursday night, Rajib Hossain went to Sylhet for a visit. On Friday morning, Kanika set out for her father's house with her daughter. On the way, her father-in-law Nazimuddin and mother-in-law allegedly stopped her from going to her father's house, and she was brought back home.

After returning home, Kanika entered a room with her daughter and locked the door. Shortly after, locals heard the child Rajia screaming from inside. They broke down the door and found Kanika hanging. The child was found lying on the floor. Locals confirmed the child's death.

Police were informed and arrived at the scene to recover the bodies.

Locals believe Kanika may have killed her daughter and then committed suicide due to marital discord. However, the exact cause of the mother and daughter's deaths has not yet been confirmed.

Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after investigation. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
