Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that if necessary, the bodies of those killed in the Gopalganj clash will be taken out from their graves for autopsy. He said this on Saturday (July 19) after visiting the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Responding to reporters’ questions, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Five people died in the Gopalganj clash. Autopsies are being conducted on those who died in Dhaka. Some of the bodies of those who died in Gopalganj were taken by their families. How can their autopsies be performed? If necessary, autopsies will be conducted again.”

When asked about who would be held accountable for the Gopalganj incident, the Home Affairs Adviser said, “A committee has been formed to investigate. The committee will decide who is responsible, and you will be informed.”

Earlier, clashes broke out repeatedly in Gopalganj last Wednesday around an NCP rally. The situation escalated in various parts of the district town with incidents of grenade explosions, vandalism, and arson. To control the unrest, the district magistrate initially imposed Section 144. However, as the violence persisted, a curfew was enforced from 6.00pm that day.
On Thursday (July 18), Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, announced in a briefing at the district commissioner’s office that the curfew had been extended until 6.00pm on Friday.

During this period, the curfew was temporarily lifted for three hours yesterday, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Later that evening, the second phase of the curfew was further extended and remained in place until 6.00am on Saturday. According to the latest updates, the district administration relaxed the curfew again from 6:00am to 8:00pm today.
