Police have recovered the bodies of a man, his wife and their eight-month-old child from a rented house in Madaripur town.
The bodies were recovered late Sunday night (May 17) from a residence in the Amirabad area of the district town.
The deceased were identified as Chinmoy Das of Kolagachia area in Madaripur Sadar upazila, his wife Isha Das, and their infant child.
According to police and local sources, the house belongs to Santona Rani Chand, wife of late Birendra Nath Dutta. A woman named Misti Barai, wife of Italy expatriate Jatin Barai from Satpara area of Gopalganj’s Muksudpur upazila, had been living there as a tenant for nearly three years.
Investigators said Chinmoy Das arrived at the house on Sunday afternoon with his wife and child, introducing himself as Misti Barai’s cousin. Later at night, police rushed to the scene after receiving information and recovered the three bodies after breaking open the door of the room.
Police later sent the bodies to the morgue of Madaripur 250-bed District Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Abul Kalam Aza, offiver-in-charge (OC) of Madariur Sadar Model Police Station, said, "Misti Barai was alone in an adjacent room at the time of the incident and had contacted police."
"We are investigating whether it was a case of murder or suicide. However, Misti Barai has been kept on the list of suspects for preliminary questioning," the OC added.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances behind the deaths and uncover the motive behind the incident.
