Bodies of twin newborns recovered in Tangail
Police have recovered the bodies of two newborn twins—a boy and a girl—from a riverside area in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail.
The bodies were recovered from a cremation ground near Bhengula Bazar in Jhawail union on Wednesday, police said.
The twins were later buried at a local cemetery on Thursday afternoon (June 4).
Authorities launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
According to local residents, the newborns were spotted floating in a nearby river adjacent to the cremation ground. Locals retrieved the bodies and placed them on the riverbank before informing authorities.
Police subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies. However, the identities of the infants and how they ended up in the river remain unknown.
Confirming the incident, Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
"We are working to identify the newborns and uncover the circumstances that led to their deaths," the OC said.
