Body formed to probe Jagannath University Chhatra Dal–Shibir Clash

The administration of Jagannath University (JnU) has formed a three-member investigation committee following clashes during a program marking "July Mass Uprising Day 2026." The university also condemned the incident and announced that disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible based on the committee's findings.

The decision was announced in an urgent notice issued on Tuesday (August 4) by the university's Public Relations, Information and Publications Office.

According to the notice, the university administration had held several coordination meetings with student organizations and other stakeholders in advance to ensure the peaceful conduct of the discussion session, photo exhibition, and award ceremony organized to mark the occasion.

It added that all necessary preparations had been made to successfully host the nationally significant event.

The program was attended by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed as the chief guest.

The notice stated that responsible behavior from all participants had been expected in the interest of the university's reputation and ongoing development.

However, during the event, clashes involving chases and attacks broke out among a number of students. The administration said such incidents could damage the university's reputation, disrupt the academic environment, and hinder its ongoing development activities.

The university strongly condemned the violence and urged students to exercise restraint, respect one another, and abide by university rules and regulations.

The investigation committee will be chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Azam Khan, Director of the Institute of Education and Research. The other members are Professor Dr. Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman of the Department of Chemistry and Associate Professor Md. Mezbaha-Ul-Azam Saudagar of the Department of Political Science.
The university administration has instructed the committee to submit its report as quickly as possible.

It said that appropriate action will be taken under university regulations against those found responsible, based on the committee's findings.
