Body formed to probe Tejgaon train fire

A five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate into the fire incident at Mohanganj Express in Tejgaon that killed four people.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan informed the matter at a press conference at the railway headquarters in Dhaka On Tuesday.

The Minister said a five-member investigation committee, headed by the District Transport Officer of Railways, has been constituted in the incident of fire in the train at Tejgaon. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next five working days.

Earlier, miscreants set fire to three carriages of the Mohanganj Express in Tejgaon early Tuesday, leaving at least four people dead.

Apart from railway police, different wings of law enforcement including the Dhaka Metropolitan Police are working in this regard.

Members of the bomb disposal unit of police, collecting evidence from the bogies. Primary investigation suggests it was not possible for the fire to spread so quickly without use of petrol.

The BNP and its allies have called a countrywide dawn-till-dusk hartal on Tuesday, protesting the schedule of the national election announced by the Election Commission.

In a press release issued following the incident, BNP's Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi called for the immediate arrest of those involved in torching the train.
