Body found in drum in Mymensingh identified as jeweller Niranjan Sutradhar

The identity of a body recovered from a drum found floating in water in Mymensingh has been confirmed. The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar (50).

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shibirul Islam conveyed the information around 3:30pm on Thursday, September 24.

Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar was the son of Ramendra Chandra Sutradhar of the district's Trishal upazila. Although his home is in Trishal, he lived in a rented house in the Stadium area of Mymensingh city with his wife and children. He worked as a jewellery craftsman.

Earlier, police recovered the body from inside a drum floating in the water in front of a sluice gate in the Begunbari area of Sadar on Wednesday morning.

The OC said there are marks of sharp weapon injuries on Niranjan's head and chest. It is believed he was killed and his body then placed inside the drum. No one has yet been arrested in the incident.

The body was handed over to relatives after the autopsy. The OC said further legal procedures in the incident are underway.
