Body of ASI found hanging inside Bogura Police Lines

Police have recovered the hanging body of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md. Ariful Islam, a member of the district police’s wireless branch, from the Bogura Police Lines.

The body was recovered from inside the police lines compound on Friday morning (May 22), officials said.

Police suspect the 38-year-old officer died by suicide sometime between 1:30am Thursday night and 8:00am Friday morning after hanging himself with a rope while on duty.

Ariful Islam hailed from the Padmabil Ghoria area of Naldanga upazila in Natore district. He was the son of Md. Ashraf and is survived by his wife Ruma Begum and two children.

According to police sources, the incident came to light on this morning, prompting senior district police officials, including Bogura Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, to visit the scene.

Additional Superintendent of Police and district police spokesperson Md. Atowar Rahman confirmed the recovery of the body and said preparations were underway to send it to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Police said an investigation has been launched to determine whether it was a case of suicide or if there were any other circumstances behind the death.
