Body of Bangladeshi killed in BSF shooting returned after 40 hours

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man who was shot dead near the Chandherhat border in Pirganj of Thakurgaon, around 40 hours after the incident.

The body of Asadul Haque, 38, son of Abdul Wazed of Dakshin Indrail village, was handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at around 10pm on Sunday (September 13) in the area under the Jinajpur BOP.

Before the handover, BGB and BSF held a flag meeting at the zero line near border pillar 333/2-S around 6pm. A BGB delegation led by Lt Col Abdullah Al Moin, commander of Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB), attended the meeting, while BSF personnel were led by Surya Pal, commander of the Chadgaon camp.

Lt Col Al Moin confirmed the handover, saying BGB contacted the BSF through the flag meeting after learning of the incident and requested the return of the body. The BSF completed the necessary procedures and handed it over around 10pm.

According to local sources, Asadul and two other Bangladeshis were shot and injured by the BSF early Saturday near border pillar 333 while allegedly attempting to enter Indian territory. BSF personnel later rescued them and admitted them to Kaliyaganj State General Hospital, where Asadul died while undergoing treatment.

The two others, Mostakim, son of Ahed Ali, and Shri Uda, son of Narayan, were also injured in the shooting. Indian police later arrested them on allegations of illegal entry and sent them to jail.
