Body of Chhatra Dal leader recovered four hours after abduction in Cox's Bazar

Police have recovered the body of a Chhatra Dal leader named Mohammad Isfatul Islam Jisan nearly four hours after he was abducted in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar.

The body was recovered from the Khutakhali Kachhapia Dhala area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in the early hours of Monday, September 28.

The deceased, Jisan, was a resident of Lotni area in Kakara union of Chakaria upazila. He was a senior joint convener of Kakara union Chhatra Dal.

According to local and family sources, several people took Jisan away in a white microbus from in front of Saber Sawdagar's shop in the Lotni area late at night. Nearly four hours later, his body was found lying beside the highway.

Family members claimed that after the abduction, Jisan was taken to Kabir Tower in the Sabujbagh residential area of Chakaria municipality and killed there. They also claimed his body was later dumped beside the highway.

Meanwhile, an audio of a conversation between Jisan's elder brother Kaysar and Mizan, younger brother of Kabir Tower's owner Zakaria, has spread on social media. Kaysar claimed the conversation took place about two hours before Jisan was abducted.

In the audio that spread, Mizan can be heard saying, "We have taken a decision as we are unable to do anything, we have written a case. If you do not sit for a solution with your brother (Jisan) within tomorrow daytime, then I will find my own path to a solution. Fifty people are ready to search for your brother."

There are further remarks about Jisan in the conversation. However, it could not be verified whether the audio is Mizan's.

According to Chakaria Police Station sources, locals identified a white X-Noah vehicle in the parking area of Kabir Tower in the Sabujbagh residential area. Police said when they went to the scene after receiving the news and sought to see the building's CCTV footage, the family of the building's owner Zakaria could not show the footage.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman said an investigation is underway into why Jisan was abducted and the actual cause of his death. Efforts are continuing to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.

Police have sent the body to Cox's Bazar district Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
