Body of female police constable recovered in Patuakhali’s Kalapara

The body of a female police constable was recovered from a rented apartment at  Kalapara Upazila in Patuakhali.

The deceased, identified as Meherunnesa Urmi, 28, was serving at Kalapara Police Station.

Police recovered her body from a room in West Badurtali village under Tiakhali union in the early hours of Saturday (May 2).

According to police and local sources, Urmi had been living in the rented flat with her husband and two young children for the past eight months. Family disputes between the couple were reported in recent months.

Her husband, Mahibbur Rahman Bappi, a former police member, informed police around 1:30am that Urmi had died by hanging from a ceiling fan. Officers later recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death. The husband and children have been taken into police custody for questioning.

Police said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the autopsy and investigation.
