Body of garment official found hanging in factory storeroom

Police have recovered the hanging body of a senior official from a storeroom inside a garment factory in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

The deceased, identified as Idris Ali, 43, was serving as Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Fariha Knit Tex Ltd., located in the Baraibhog area under Enayetnagar union.

His body was recovered from the factory storeroom on Tuesday morning (May 12).

According to police, a worker first spotted the body hanging inside the room and informed factory authorities, who later alerted law enforcement officials.

Mohammad Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fatullah Police Station, said, "Police recovered the body and launched an investigation into the matter. The body is being sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death."

Factory Security Manager Mohammad Monir Hossain said Idris Ali was supposed to return home after office hours on Monday evening. Colleagues repeatedly tried to contact him by phone but failed. Later, the factory transport left without him. He added that the storeroom where the body was found was under Idris Ali’s supervision.

Family members, however, questioned the possibility of suicide. Idris Ali’s wife, Hafiza Akter, said her husband lived a normal life and was a religious person, making the incident “highly suspicious” to the family.

“I informed both the factory authorities and police on Monday night after failing to locate him. At that time, we were told he was not there. The next morning, we learned his body had been found inside the storeroom,” she said.

Following the recovery of the body, workers and colleagues staged demonstrations outside the factory, alleging that Idris Ali had been killed before being hanged to make it appear as suicide. Protesters demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.

Police said additional measures were taken to bring the situation under control as tensions briefly escalated in the area.
