Body of JnU student recovered from student mess in Old Dhaka
Police have recovered the hanging body of a student named Sabrina Rahman Shammi from a student mess in Kather Pul in the capital's Old Dhaka.
She is a third-year student of the Department of Sociology at Jagannath University (JnU).
It is learnt that the incident took place at the wee hours of Sunday (January 26).
Sutrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Islam said, “Shammi lived in a student mess at Tanuganj Lane in Kather Pul. She lived alone in a room in the student mess. Other students lived in the next room. We recovered her hanging body at 4:30am today.”
He said, “The body has been sent to the capital's Mitford Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The girl hailed from Narayanpur village under Chougacha police station in Jashore. Her father's name is Zahidur Rahman Lipton.”
In this regard, the university's proctor Professor Dr Muhammad Tajammul Haque said, "I went to Sutrapur police station as soon as I heard about the incident at 5:00am. Initially, I came to know that she was in love with a BUET student."
