Body of missing farmer recovered from haor while inspecting submerged paddy in Habiganj

The body of a farmer, who went missing two days ago after going to inspect submerged paddy fields, has been recovered from a haor in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj.

The deceased, Abdul Rouf, 60, was recovered from the water of Kaistagram-adjacent haor under Gojnaipur union around 11:30am on Thursday (May 7).

According to police, Abdul Rouf, son of late Rajat Ullah from Nishakuri village in Nabiganj, had gone to his farmland on Tuesday to check flooded paddy fields and went missing shortly afterwards.

Despite extensive searches by family members, he could not be traced. On Wednesday, a diving team from Habiganj Fire Service conducted a day-long rescue operation but failed to locate him.

His body eventually surfaced on Thursday morning, after which locals recovered it and informed police, said Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moneem Mia.

Authorities said legal procedures regarding the incident are underway.
