Body of missing fisherman washes ashore in Kuakata beach
The body of a fisherman who had been missing for six days was recovered on Friday morning from the Kuakata beach. The deceased has been identified as Nazrul Islam (60), a resident of Laluya Union in Kalapara Upazila and the son of the late Tajem Ali.
According to police sources, the body was discovered around 8:00 AM in the Mirabari area on the western side of the beach. Kuakata river police recovered the body following a report from local residents.
Over the past several days, the sea has remained rough due to inclement weather, resulting in multiple trawler accidents. It is suspected that Nazrul Islam was aboard a trawler that capsized during the storm and that his body was washed ashore by the tides.
Nazrul’s son, Nasir Hawlader, said his father had gone fishing on July 25 aboard a trawler named FB Sagorkonna. The vessel reportedly sank during a storm, and despite days of searching, Nazrul had remained missing until his body was recovered today.
Sub-Inspector Monir of the Kuakata river police outpost confirmed the recovery and identification of the body. “Several fishermen have been reported missing in recent days. We have identified the deceased, and further legal procedures are underway,” he said.
