The body of US-based tourist Riyana Abzal, 28, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Dhankmari River of the Sundarbans, was recovered on Monday morning (November 10).

Coast Guard personnel found her body floating near the confluence of the Pashur and Shyala rivers in Joymoni Ghol area under Mongla of Bagerhat and handed over to Chandpai River Police.

The body will be released to her family after legal formalities, said Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq.

The tourist boat, carrying 13 passengers including women and children, overturned on Saturday. Some passengers swam to shore while others were rescued, but Riyana remained missing.

Riyana, daughter of Abul Kalam Azad from North Dhaka, originally hailed from Barishal. She was a former Bangladesh Air Force pilot and had moved to the US several years ago.
