Body of Notre Dame College ex-teacher recovered from Kalabagan
The body of Dhirendra Kumar Roy (71), a former teacher of Notre Dame College, was recovered from his residence in Kalabagan, Dhaka, on Monday (August 24). Police said, quoting the family, that he had committed suicide.
He was taken to hospital after being found at his home on 188 Green Road in Kalabagan around morning, where doctors declared him dead.
Kalabagan Police Station Sub-Inspector Atikur Rahman said Dhirendra Kumar Roy's daughter found him hanging at home. With the help of neighbours, he was taken to the emergency department of Green Life Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 9:15am.
The SI said Roy's wife, Dipali Roy, is a schoolteacher. She had left for work in the morning while her daughter was asleep at home. The family informed police that the incident occurred while the daughter was sleeping.
Regarding the possible reason for the suicide, he said the family reported that Roy had been suffering from depression for a long time and had been undergoing psychiatric treatment since 2025. Police also learned that his two brothers had also died by suicide.
