Body of schoolboy recovered after drowning in Netrokona canal
The body of a schoolboy who drowned in a canal in Netrokona’s Mohanganj upazila was recovered after becoming entangled in fishermen’s nets.
The deceased, Ali, 11, a third-grade student and son of Ashikul of Panur village, went to the nearby Sapmara canal around noon on Wednesday to wash his face. He reportedly drowned while in the water.
After Ali went missing, family members searched the area. Fishermen later cast their nets in the canal and recovered his body.
Local residents said Ali had epilepsy and suspected he may have suffered a seizure after entering the water, causing him to drown. However, the exact circumstances of his death were not immediately established.
Md Hafizul Islam Harun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohanganj Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying the family had no complaint.
"The body was handed over to the family without an autopsy following their request," he added.
