Body of wild elephant recovered in Sherpur
The forest department has recovered the body of a male wild elephant, aged approximately 15-16 years, from the Katabari forest on the border of Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur.
Officials of the Madhutila range recovered the body of the elephant on Saturday morning (July 5).
"It is initially believed that the elephant died after getting entangled in an electric wire. However, the real cause of death will be known after the autopsy," Range officer Dewan Ali said.
According to the Forest Department and local residents, a security fence using electric lights was set up to protect crops and homes from wild elephant attacks. The lights were intended to deter elephant herds from entering the area. On Friday night, a herd of 8 to 10 elephants crossed into the region through the Nakugaon border. One of the elephants became entangled in the electric wiring and died during the night.
"Higher authorities have been informed about the incident," the forest department said.
