Body of woman buried under soil recovered after 6 days of missing, 1 detained

Police has recovered the body of a 34-year-old woman named Nazma Akter Naju buried under soil after six days of going missing in Netrokona. In this incident her former husband Nurul Amin has been detained. Police claims that Nurul Amin has confessed to the murder in the interrogation and the body was found on the basis of the information given by him.

After recovering the evidence of murder from beside the cremation ground adjacent to Khatpura Bridge of Maugati union under Netrokona Sadar upazila in the afternoon on Friday the body of Nazma was recovered from the bank of the Dhukiyali river.

Detained Nurul Amin is the son of Islam Uddin of Nagua Kushalgaon village. The deceased Nazma is the daughter of Islam Uddin of Katli area under Sadar upazila.

It has been learnt from police sources that Nazma went missing around 7pm on September 19. Later her younger brother Md Shuvo filed a general diary at Netrokona Model police station on September 22. Police detained Nazma’s former husband Nurul Amin on suspicion while investigating the GD. Police has informed that he has confessed to the murder in the interrogation.

Police informed that the marriage of Nazma and Nurul Amin took place about 14 years ago. They have a six-year-old son Mujahid and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Nazifa. Due to family disputes their divorce and remarriage took place multiple times. Lastly they were living separately.

Nazma had filed a case for dower and maintenance against her former husband. Besides another case filed on the allegation of rape is being investigated by the PBI. Their two children are currently in the custody of the relatives.

According to the statement of the police, when Nazma came to Netrokona town to buy pesticide for the land in the evening on September 19 she called Nurul Amin. Later when they met in Borobazar area verbal altercation and physical fight took place between the two. At one stage the locals removed them.

After that Nurul Amin took Nazma to Raju’s Bazar by rickshaw by saying that he would give Tk 6,000 of maintenance. From there they went to Khatpura Bridge area of Maugati union on a hired motorcycle. Argument took place between them again over the matter of giving money around 10:30pm.

Police claims that at one stage when Nurul Amin hit on the chest of Nazma she fell on the ground. Later she was taken to the nearby cremation ground on the shoulder and killed by strangulation by wrapping his own orna around the neck. After that the body was taken to the bank of the Dhukiyali river beside the house and buried under soil by digging a hole with a spade, police has informed.

Officer-in-charge of Netrokona Model police station Md Abul Khayer informed that the orna used by Nazma, mobile phone and shoes have been recovered from the place shown by Nurul Amin. Later the body was recovered in the buried under soil condition from the bank of the river according to the information given by him.

He informed that the legal process including the inquest and post-mortem of the body is continuing. Subsequent legal measures will be taken on the basis of the written FIR of the family of the deceased.
