Body-worn cameras mandatory for police during election duty: IGP
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam has directed all police personnel to use body-worn cameras while performing duties during the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election to ensure transparency, accountability and neutrality.
Speaking at a pre-election briefing at the Civic Centre of Chattogram Police Lines on Saturday, January 24, the IGP said all officers and members must ensure the use of body-worn cameras while on duty, noting that the technology would play a crucial role in enhancing transparency and accountability.
He said technology-based policing is vital to building public trust, particularly during sensitive periods such as elections.
A total of 458 officers and members from 29 units in Chattogram attended the briefing, including senior officials from Chattogram Metropolitan Police and the Chattogram Range.
Welcoming the participants, Chattogram Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan said the police must ensure a neutral, free and peaceful election.
During the session, officers discussed operational challenges and field-level experiences. Several proposals were raised, including the provision of speedboats for island police stations, loan facilities for purchasing motorcycles, the introduction or increase of allowances for island postings, and improved facilities for officers assigned to election duties.
