Bogura Madrasa hosts feast on Day of National Mourning
A madrasa in Bogura reportedly organised a celebratory feast on Wednesday (December 31), during the national mourning period following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Earlier on December 30, the government had declared a one-day public holiday and three days of state mourning ragarding the death of the country's first woman premiere.
The event took place around 1:00pm at Narilla Italy S U Madrasa in Shahjahanpur Upazila.
Eyewitnesses say the feast was arranged by the madrasa’s superintendent and managing committee members, with participants including Superintendent Delwar Hossain Mafu and local ward BNP president and guardian member Abdul Mannan.
According to locals, the celebration was held to mark teacher Mizanur Rahman receiving a higher grade. Preparations for the feast reportedly began early in the morning.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mahbubul Alam told Views Bangladesh, “This is extremely regrettable. I cannot understand how such an event could take place during a day of state mourning. The madrasa authorities were all involved. The superintendent will be served a show-cause notice tomorrow, and disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible.”
Attempts to contact Superintendent Delwar Hossain Mafu and other accused parties were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
