A leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP) has been expelled from the Bogura Technical Training Center (TTC) for sexually harassing a female trainee and teacher.

The decision was taken in an order signed by TTC Principal Engineer SM Imdadul Haque, said Rashedul Hasan Shaheen, the institution's administrative officer and senior instructor on Monday.

The expelled Ali Azam Sabbir, 24, is the son of Sekender Ali of Dahila village in Shibganj municipality and the coordinator of NCP's Shibganj upazila branch. He was a trainee in driving and RAC (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) trades at TTC.

Earlier, on May 24, a video of Ali Azam being beaten with shoes on charges of sexual harassment went viral on social media. Later, on May 29, the Bogura district branch of the NCP dismissed him from his party post.

The TTC said that Ali Azam was accused of harassing female trainees and teachers, behaving indecently and sending objectionable messages on his mobile phone.

The expulsion order issued said that this action has been taken against him for tarnishing the image of the institution and harassing and behaving inappropriately towards female trainees on Monday. The order will come into effect immediately.

Senior instructor Rashedul Hasan Shaheen said that the situation that arose at that time regarding the harassment of female trainees was very serious. We took a written undertaking from him (Ali Azam), in which he admitted his guilt.

He said that he was expelled under strict administrative punishment as per the decision of the academic council to maintain discipline and the learning environment of the institution.
