Bomb attack threat at BRAC University, GD at Badda police station

Police has strengthened the security system of the BRAC University campus in Merul-Badda of the capital after receiving an e-mail of bomb attack threat. This measure was taken after the university authorities filed a general diary at the police station. However who the threat-giver is has not yet been identified.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda police station Kazi Md Nasirul Amin informed on Monday (October 5) that information of a massive bomb attack on the campus on Tuesday has been given in the e-mail of the university in the evening on Sunday. He informed that work is continuing on the matter after receiving the allegation.

Police sources are saying that the message reached the university around 6:45pm in the evening on Sunday. The time of the attack was fixed around 11am on Tuesday in that message. The threat-giver has further written that the incident is going to happen and no one will be able to stop it.

Multiple agencies are working on the investigation of the incident. The cyber unit of the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTTC) of the police and the thana police are examining the matter. Finding out from where and through what process the e-mail has been sent is now the main challenge.

The public relations officer of the university informed that the e-mail has come from an unknown source. After receiving it the law and order maintaining force has been informed and all types of cooperation are being received from them.

The authorities are now giving the highest priority to ensuring the security of everyone of the university family including the teachers, students, officers and employees. The public relations department of the university has also informed that they are considering the matter of the threat with importance.

Earlier Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division of DMP Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan had said that there is no reason to be panicked about this and it is not being seen as a real threat. Nevertheless security has been increased on the campus as part of caution.
