Bomb explosion in imam’s room in Madaripur, tin fence blown away
A bomb explosion has occurred in the bedroom of an imam of a mosque in Madaripur Sadar upazila. The tin fence of the room was damaged in the incident but no casualties have been reported. Panic spread among the locals over the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madaripur Sadar Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said the incident took place at Al-Aqsa Akon Bari in Hoglapatia area of Jhaudi Union under the Sadar upazila around 3:30pm on Tuesday (September 1).
Police and eyewitnesses said the imam of the mosque has been ill for five days and is under treatment in Dhaka. For this reason, he is not currently staying at the mosque either. It has been learnt that the keys to his living room are with the muezzin and members of the mosque committee.
However, police could not immediately provide any information about who planted the bomb inside the room.
OC Abul Kalam Azad said the tin fence of the room was damaged in the explosion. But no one was injured or killed in it. The incident is being investigated. Efforts are on to identify the actual cause of the explosion and the persons involved with it.
