Police have recovered a large quantity of bomb-making equipment and GI pipes from an abandoned building at a fish farm in Nangalkot, Cumilla. The items were recovered on Wednesday afternoon from 'Al Basharat Fisheries Project' in Mogua area, Peria union of the upazila.

Locals said the fisheries project is owned by Saiful Islam Mamun, president of the union Jamaat's youth wing.

According to local sources, some people had been coming and going with sacks over the past few days. Around noon on Wednesday, some people arrived at the spot in a microbus. After a while, they left with goods packed in several sacks. When locals became suspicious, they went to the abandoned building and saw bomb-making equipment. Locals then gathered and informed the police station, following which a joint force arrived at the scene and recovered GI pipes along with bomb-making equipment.

Fisheries project manager Rayhan Rahman Raju said some people had been coming to the project over the past few days, staying for an hour or two. However, they were not allowed to go there.

Local resident Sumon Ahmed said, "For several days, I heard some people were coming and going here. When we came here today, they fled. We came to the spot and saw various explosive materials. Later, we informed the police."

When contacted for comment, Saiful Islam Mamun did not answer his phone. His statement could not be obtained.

However, local Jamaat leader Maolana Noman claimed it was a conspiracy. He told the media that former local UP member Jakir was conspiring to question the election by targeting the assets of youth wing leader Mamun.

Nangalkot Police Station OC Arifur Rahman said the joint force recovered GI pipes and explosive materials after receiving information. "We will be able to say whether these are explosives or not after examination by experts. The incident is being investigated with importance. Legal action will be taken following investigation."
