Book Fair to be held in February after national election

The Bangla Academy has decided to organise the Ekushey Book Fair in February, following the upcoming national parliamentary election.

The decision was taken on Sunday, November 2, at around 6:30 pm during a meeting between the Director General of Bangla Academy and a delegation from the Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association.

The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the Bangla Academy.

During the meeting, the Publishers and Sellers Association proposed several possible timeframes for the fair while also reviewing recommendations from state security agencies. After assessing the overall situation, the proposal to hold the fair in February, immediately after the national election, was deemed the most feasible. It was also decided that the exact date of the fair will be announced once the election schedule is officially confirmed.

The statement further added that the Bangla Academy has been maintaining regular communication with senior government authorities and other relevant stakeholders regarding the arrangement of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026.
