Boyfriend held for killing college student after calling her to Barishal home
The prime accused in the murder of college student Sanjida Kabir Anita, 21, has been arrested by in Barishal’s Uzirpur upazila.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-8) arrested the accused, Md. Mainul Islam Himu, 32, around 9:30am from the Ichaladi Toll Plaza area in Uzirpur on Thursday (May 7).
RAB said the arrest was made during a raid conducted on the basis of a tip-off.
Himu, a resident of Kathpatti area in Jhalokathi Sadar upazila, had been living in a rented house on West Bogura Road in Barishal city.
According to RAB, the victim had been in a romantic relationship with Himu for around two years. On April 23, Anita left her home saying she was going to her sister’s house. She later went missing, and her phone remained switched off, prompting concern among family members.
Family members later traced her to Himu’s rented residence in a lane opposite Oxford Mission Primary School on West Bogura Road, where they found her body lying on a bed.
Following the incident, the victim’s sister filed a murder case with Kotwali Model Police Station of Barishal Metropolitan Police. The accused had been absconding since the killing.
RAB-8 Company Commander Md. Kamruzzaman said Himu was later handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station after preliminary interrogation.
