The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has increased the nationwide supply of fuel in a bid to stabilise the market and ease consumer pressure following the recent price hike.

Under the new directive, effective on Monday (April 20), octane supply has been raised by 20 per cent, while diesel and petrol supplies have increased by 10 per cent.

The decision was announced in an official order issued on Sunday, citing the need to ensure uninterrupted distribution at both dealer and consumer levels.

According to BPC’s updated distribution plan, daily nationwide supply will now include 13,048 tonnes of diesel, 1,422 tonnes of octane, and 1,547 tonnes of petrol.

The move comes shortly after the government adjusted fuel prices in line with the global market. As per the revised rates, diesel is now priced at Tk 115 per litre, octane at Tk 140, petrol at Tk 135, and kerosene at Tk 130.

In recent weeks, long queues at filling stations in Dhaka and beyond had sparked concerns over supply shortages. Earlier in March, BPC had imposed daily sales limits based on vehicle categories.

However, the latest decision signals a shift away from restrictions toward boosting supply.

Energy officials maintain that there is no actual shortage in the market, attributing the recent disruption to panic buying and stockpiling. Authorities expect the increased supply to normalise conditions at fuel stations in the coming days.

Officials also noted that the government continues to provide subsidies in the energy sector despite rising import costs amid global volatility. A digital monitoring system, known as “fuel pass,” has already been expanded to multiple districts as part of efforts to ensure tighter oversight and market stability.
