The intercity Brahmaputra Express derailed at a level crossing in the College Road area of Mymensingh city at around 9:30am on Wednesday (June 10), disrupting train services on one of the country's busiest inter-divisional corridors.

The power car and multiple bogies left the tracks, bringing the train to an abrupt halt and triggering an immediate suspension of all services on the Jamalpur–Dhaka route.

The train had started from Dewanganj in Jamalpur and was bound for Dhaka when the derailment occurred. It was passing through the College Road level crossing — well within the city limits — when a bogie slipped off the rails.

Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, confirmed the matter.

"The train had come from Dewanganj and was heading to Dhaka when a bogie derailed at the College Road level crossing around 9:30 in the morning. Train movement on the Jamalpur–Dhaka route has been suspended since then," the OC said.

Railway recovery teams were dispatched to the site shortly after the incident was reported. A rescue locomotive was deployed to the scene, and the derailed bogies were towed to Mymensingh station. Work to re-rail the displaced coaches and restore the track to operational condition was underway as of the latest update.

No immediate information was available on casualties or injuries among passengers.

The duration of the service disruption remains unclear, with restoration work continuing at the site. Passengers travelling on the Jamalpur–Dhaka corridor were advised to expect significant delays.
