BREB suffers loss exceeding Tk103 crore due to Remal

Preliminary reports indicate that the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) incurred a loss exceeding Tk103 crore due to the effects of Cyclone Remal.

Approximately 3.03 million consumers of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) were without electricity across approximately 80 affected Palli Bidyut Samity areas. As of 6:00pm on Friday (May 31), BREB has successfully connected around 3.2 million customers, with efforts ongoing to provide electricity connections to the remaining 280,000 consumers.

This information was provided in a circular by Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.

Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin said, "The West Zone Power Distribution Company successfully restored all -disconnected customers on Friday.

Regarding the remaining one percent of rural electrification board customers, he mentioned the necessity of going door-to-door for reconnection. Initial reports indicate damages totaling Tk 103 crore 33 lakh.
