Bride Mitu and 2 others laid to rest
The funeral and burial of bride Marzia Akhtar Mitu, her sister Lamia, and her grandmother Rashida Begum, who were killed in a road accident in Rampal, Bagerhat, have been completed. Their funeral prayers were held at 9:30 am on Friday, March 13, at a field near their home in Naksha village, Koyra upazila, Khulna. They were later buried in the family graveyard.
Locals said the bodies of Rashida Begum, mother of Abdus Salam Morol, her daughter bride Mitu, and younger daughter Lamia were brought to the village, and after funeral prayers in the morning, they were buried in the family graveyard. The entire village is under a shadow of grief following the incident.
Relatives said the atmosphere, which should have been filled with wedding joy, is now heavy with sorrow and tears. Abdus Salam, a relative of the deceased, was fainting repeatedly. Locals broke down in tears and prayed for the salvation of the departed souls.
It is known that on Wednesday night, Marzia Akhtar Mitu, daughter of Abdus Salam Morol from Naksha village in Koyra upazila, Khulna, was married to Ahadur Rahman (Sabbir), younger son of Abdur Razzak, President of Mongla Municipality Ward 8 BNP.
After the wedding, members of both families, including the bride and groom, were returning in a microbus. On the way, the microbus collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction in the Belaibij area of Rampal upazila, Bagerhat. Fourteen people, including the microbus driver, were killed in the accident.
Among the deceased were Marzia Akhtar Mitu from Naksha village, Koyra, her sister Lamia, grandmother Rashida Begum, and grandmother Anwara Begum, who were in the microbus. On the other hand, the bodies of nine members of the groom's family have been taken to Mongla. Preparations for their burial are also underway there.
