British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke meets State Minister Humayun Kabir

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, August 30.

The High Commissioner congratulated the State Minister on his assumption of office and expressed confidence that the Bangladesh-UK partnership would be further strengthened.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the deep historical ties and strong people-to-people connectivity between the two countries. They discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade and investment, strengthen long-term economic relations and increase collaboration in Bangladesh's civil aviation sector.

They also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in other priority areas, including education, migration and mobility, skills development and security.

The State Minister appreciated the UK's continued support for the Rohingya cause and called on the UK to maintain its role in international efforts for the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya to Myanmar. The High Commissioner assured that the UK would continue to play its leadership role on Myanmar at the UN Security Council and work to keep the issue high on the international agenda.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation on various bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
