Chief Adviser (CA) Dr Muhammad Yunus has said that broker networks are the biggest hurdle in Bangladesh’s overseas labour export, emphasising the urgent need to eliminate exploitation in the sector.

Speaking at an event marking "International Migrants and Expatriates Day" at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday (December 17), Dr. Yunus said, “The labour export process is entirely riddled with brokers. At every step, people fall victim to their fraudulent practices.”

He stressed that meaningful progress in the labour export sector is impossible unless it is freed from such intermediaries. “We must remove brokers from this sector to ensure fairness, transparency, and growth,” he added.

Addressing the country’s youth, Dr. Yunus highlighted Bangladesh’s unique demographic advantage. “The world is facing a shortage of youth, but we are a mine of youthful energy. This is more valuable than gold. The world will have to come to us — there is no other place with such a concentration of young manpower,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from Adviser for Expatriate Welfare Dr Asif Nazrul, who outlined interim government initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and protection of Bangladeshi expatriates abroad.
