All unfit and expired vehicles will be removed from roads from May onwards, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Mohammed Yasin said on Wednesday (1 January).

Among the total registered vehicles, an estimated 14,000 buses and trucks have expired their lifespan across the country, he said at a discussion in the BRTA Mirpur Circle Office.

These vehicles will be removed from the road starting from May, added the chairman.

He also said no further opportunities will be granted to operate these vehicles.

Regarding the acquisition of new buses, Yasin stated that some owners have sought loans on easy terms.

He added that the BRTA has informed the government about this request, and the government will facilitate the provision of loans on easy terms through banks.

In response to queries, BRTA Director Shitanshu Shekhar said since independence, all registered vehicle data has been recorded and stored in the BRTA server.
