BRTC’s Pink Buses introduce e-ticketing service

The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has introduced e-ticketing on its women-only ‘Pink Bus’ service to make travel more convenient, orderly and transparent for female passengers.

Initially, the service has been launched on 14 buses operating in Dhaka, Chattogram and Bogura, with passengers able to collect electronic tickets through point-of-sale (POS) machines after boarding.

The new ticketing system was inaugurated recently at the BRTC bus depot in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Easy Limited is providing technical support to BRTC for the initiative.

Officials said e-ticketing will speed up the ticketing process, improve transparency in fare collection and enhance services for women passengers.

As part of the rollout, Easy trained conductors at the respective bus depots on operating POS machines, issuing e-tickets and managing the digital ticketing process.

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam attended the inauguration as the chief guest. State Minister Habibul Rashid, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque and Women and Children Affairs Ministry Secretary Yasmin were also present.

BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla chaired the event.

The authorities said the introduction of e-ticketing on the 14 Pink Buses marks another step towards technology-driven passenger services. Similar digital ticketing systems are expected to be expanded to other public transport services gradually.
