Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has said that India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push 28 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Chapainawabganj border early Thursday (July 4).

The incident took place around 3:30am in the Bangabari border area of Gomostapur upazila, near border pillar 203/6-R under the jurisdiction of Naogaon Battalion.

According to BGB sources, personnel of India’s Border Security Force allegedly left the 28 individuals—comprising 12 men, 10 women and 6 children—on the zero line near the border. The group was reportedly brought close to the border by members of the BSF’s Ashrafpur camp under the 12 Battalion.

Alerted by the situation, a patrol team from Border Guard Bangladesh quickly reached the spot and strengthened surveillance and patrols in the area. Officials said the group was prevented from entering Bangladesh due to BGB’s intervention.

Local Union Parishad acting chairman Saddam Hossain said he visited the area around 5am and observed heightened security and patrol activity by BGB, but did not see any BSF personnel near the stranded group.

Lieutenant Colonel Sadikur Rahman, commander of BGB 16 Battalion, said the 28 individuals were still located on the zero line and additional forces had been deployed to manage the situation. He added that no BSF personnel were visible near them at the time of reporting.
