The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) made an attempt to push 17 individuals, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Naogaon border on Friday morning (June 5).

The intrusion was successfully averted due to the immediate intervention and heightened vigilance of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The push-in attempt took place around 8am on Friday at the Hapania border area in Sapahar Upazila. This incident follows a massive coordinated effort on Thursday, where the BSF attempted to push 129 people into Bangladesh through 11 different points along the international border.

According to sources within the Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB), BSF personnel from the 88 BSF Pannachhara camp attempted to force the group of 17 people across the border near main pillar 238/MP of the Hapania border. Upon receiving the information, a patrol team from the Hapania Border Outpost (BOP) rushed to the spot and intercepted them while they were still inside the Indian side of the zero line. The group consists of six men, six women, and five children, who are currently stranded at the zero line.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Massum, commanding officer of the Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB), confirmed the situation, stating that border patrols have been significantly reinforced in the area. He emphasized that no one will be allowed to infiltrate Bangladesh illegally and noted that processing is underway to push them back entirely into Indian territory.

The BGB headquarters reiterated its stance on national security, stating that intelligence surveillance and patrol activities have been maximized along the frontier to prevent potential illegal crossings.

In an official press release issued, the BGB declared that no individual or group would be permitted to enter Bangladesh unlawfully on Thursday. The paramilitary force warned that any push-in attempt violating international border management laws and existing bilateral agreements would be fiercely resisted. Over the last 24 hours, similar push-in attempts by the BSF were reported and foiled across 11 border points spanning Chapainawabganj, Netrokona, Sylhet, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Joypurhat, Khulna, and Jhenaidah districts.
