BSF detains Bangladeshi police official for alleged illegal crossing
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has detained a senior Bangladeshi police officer for allegedly attempting to illegally enter Indian territory through the Hakimpur border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
The arrest took place on Saturday evening (August 23) during a routine BSF patrol.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the officer was reportedly found crossing the border under suspicious circumstances. Documents recovered from him confirmed his identity as a senior member of the Bangladesh Police.
His name and rank have not been disclosed, citing the ongoing investigation.
The officer has been handed over to the West Bengal Police for further questioning.
BSF officials stated that such incidents are extremely rare, particularly involving law enforcement personnel from across the border.
