BSF detains father, 3 sons for illegal border crossing in Thakurgaon
A father and his three sons were detained late Monday night by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while attempting to illegally enter India from Bangladesh in search of work.
The incident took place near pillar number 373/1-S on the India-Bangladesh border, close to the Bamanbari (Begunbari) area in India’s Baliadangi border region of Thakurgaon.
The detainees have been identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, a resident of Kashua Badam Bari village under Boropalashbari Union in Baliadangi Upazila, along with his three sons—Saddam Hossain, Mohammad Mister, and Mohammad Alfas.
According to local sources, Nazrul Islam had set out with his sons to find work in India. Border officials said the group attempted to cross the border illegally via Nagorbhita around 1:40 AM. A BSF patrol team from the Bamanbari camp intercepted and detained them.
Currently, the detainees remain in BSF custody in India.
Following the arrest, the BSF has informed the 50th Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The BGB in Thakurgaon confirmed they have been notified and are in the process of verifying the identities of the detainees to confirm their Bangladeshi nationality. Once verified, the BGB will coordinate further actions with the BSF.
