BSF hands over 39 Bangladeshis at Meherpur border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over 39 Bangladeshis to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Kajibpur border in Meherpur's Gangni Upazila on Tuesday (August 19).
The handover took place near the 147th main pillar of the border in the afternoon.
Before the handover, an official flag meeting was held at the border. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Commandant of BSF's Gandina Camp in India, represented BSF, while Nayeb Subedar Kayum Hossain and Asabur Rahman from the Kajibpur BOP represented Bangladesh.
Also present at the meeting were the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Gangni Upazila, Executive Magistrate Saddam Hossain, and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, Bani Israel.
Nayeb Subedar Kayum Hossain said, "The individuals being handed over are residents of different districts in Bangladesh. They had crossed the border illegally at different times, seeking work as cattle herders, laborers, or in search of family members. Many had taken shelter at relatives' homes in India. After being detained by the Indian police and BSF, they were brought back to the border following legal formalities and handed over to Bangladesh."
Gangni Police Station OC Bani Israel confirmed that the 39 individuals handed over during the flag meeting have been taken to the Gangni police station. Their identities and district information are being verified, and once confirmed, they will be returned to their families.
