BSF hands over two Bangladeshis detained in India

Two Bangladeshis who were detained by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Narayanpur border in Nageshwari upazila, Kurigram, have been handed over. They were transferred to BGB through a flag meeting on Monday night, April 13. Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Ul Haq, commander of Kurigram BGB-22 Battalion, confirmed the information.

The two youths who returned are Suleman Sarkar, 34, of Dumurdaha village in Ashtashir Char, Narayanpur union, Nageshwari upazila; and Sohag Mia, 23, of South Baldia Kumaratari village in Bhurungamari upazila.

BGB said they mistakenly entered Indian territory during inclement weather on Sunday, April 12, through the border area under the responsibility of the Nageshwari BGB Chaddaghuri BOP. The BSF later detained them. Upon receiving the news, family members informed the Chaddaghuri BOP.

BGB further said they contacted the BSF regarding the detention and requested a flag meeting. A flag meeting between BGB and BSF was held on Monday evening. After the meeting, the BSF handed over the two youths to BGB around 8:00 pm in the presence of family members.

Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Ul Haq said the two youths have been handed over to police. Officer-in-Charge of Kachakata Police Station in Nageshwari upazila, Arpan Kumar Das, said no case has been filed against the two youths. They have been handed over to their families in the presence of BGB.
