The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has detained a Bangladeshi named Hossen Ahmed from the Pantumai border area in Gowainghat, Sylhet.

Gowainghat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Tofael Ahmed confirmed the matter on Wednesday (October 16).

He stated, "Hossen Ahmed (41), son of Abdul Hauqee from Pashchim Pantumai village, was taken from the Indian territory near pillar number 1268 at around 12:30pm on Tuesday (October 15). A General Diary (GD) has been filed regarding this incident, and it is being processed."

Locals reported that on Tuesday afternoon, Hossen was part of a group of 7-8 people who crossed into India to bring back smuggled sugar. When BSF members noticed them, they chased after them. While the others managed to escape, Hossen Ahmed was caught.

Hossen's brother, Faruk Ahmed, said that he and a few others went to the Pantumai border that afternoon. When the BSF chased them, the others fled, but Hossen was detained. After contacting the Pantumai BGB camp for assistance, they advised him to file a GD at the police station.

Attempts to reach the on-duty Nayeb Subedar at the Pantumai BGB camp via phone were unsuccessful, as the calls were not answered.
