BSF pushes in 48 more people through Moulvibazar border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has once again pushed in 48 Bangladeshi nationals through the Pallathal border in Barlekha Upazila, Moulvibazar district. The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) detained them early Thursday morning during patrols in the area.
With this recent incident, the total number of people detained in Moulvibazar for illegal border crossing has risen to 452. Of these, 341 were detained in Barlekha, 10 in Juri, 21 in Kulaura, 19 in Sreemangal, and 61 in Kamalganj Upazilas.
According to the 52 BGB Battalion, the detainees included 15 men, 15 women, and 18 children. They were apprehended near Pallathal Punji under the jurisdiction of Pallathal BOP, while roaming in the hilly border areas.
During interrogation, it was revealed that these individuals had initially crossed into India via the border districts of Kurigram and Jashore, seeking medical treatment and employment opportunities. However, they were pushed back by the BSF and returned to Bangladesh.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury, commander of the 52 BGB Battalion, stated that the detainees hail from Jashore, Bagerhat, Chapainawabganj, Barguna, Barishal, and Kurigram districts. After verifying their identities, appropriate legal actions are underway.
Border officials have also reported that while several hundred others have crossed illegally through the border, many evade capture by BGB and local authorities.
