BSF push-in attempt foiled, 12 stranded at no man's land in Kushtia

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push 12 people into Bangladesh along the Daulatpur border in Kushtia on Friday morning, June 12. However, the attempt was foiled by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents. The group, including women and children, is currently stranded on a jute field embankment near the zero line of the border.

The incident occurred around dawn near pillar 148/3-S in Pragpur border area under Daulatpur upazila.

Witnesses said the BSF tried to push the 12 individuals into Bangladesh. When BGB and locals resisted, the group was forced to take position near the zero line.

Local resident Nil Chand said the women and children are suffering immensely under the scorching afternoon sun. While the four men remain silent, the women have broken down in tears. Among them is a pregnant woman and several children aged between 10 months and four years. The children are becoming weak due to lack of food. Nil Chand later provided some dry food, milk and bananas.

BGB sources said the stranded group includes four men, four women and four children. They are currently positioned outside the Indian barbed wire fence near the zero line.

Pragpur Company Commander Subedar Asaduzzaman said surveillance along the border has been tightened. Illegal push-ins will not be allowed under any circumstances. He said a flag meeting was initiated over the matter, but the BSF postponed it.

Tension prevails in the border area. BGB said strict surveillance is ongoing with the cooperation of locals to keep the situation under control.

Local Union Parishad Chairman Ashrafuzzaman said the push-in attempt was unsuccessful due to the joint resistance of locals and BGB.
