BSF returns 11 Bangladeshis detained at border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned 11 Bangladeshis to Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah after detaining them for living illegally in India.
Around 11:00am on Wednesday (August 20), members of the 59 BSF Battalion’s Ronghat Camp detained them. Among the 11 Bangladeshis returned, there were 2 women and 1 child.
Munshi Imdadur Rahman, Assistant Director of the Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion, shared this information in a press release.
The press release stated that the 11 individuals had been living illegally in India and were caught by the BSF while attempting to cross the border into Bangladesh unlawfully. The Ronghat Camp Commander of the 59 BSF Battalion later provided the BGB with the detainees’ names, addresses, and phone numbers. After verification, the BGB confirmed that all 11 were Bangladeshi citizens.
At around 1:30pm, the BSF handed over the detainees to the Matila BOP of the Maheshpur BGB during a flag meeting near border pillar 53/MP. The BGB subsequently transferred them to the Maheshpur Police Station.
Maheshpur Police Station OC Sazzadur Rahman said, “After receiving the 11 Bangladeshis from the BSF, the BGB handed them over to the police. Appropriate legal action will be taken regarding the detainees.”
