BSF sends back 14 Bangladeshis

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) detained 14 Bangladeshis at the Haripur border in Thakurgaon for allegedly entering India illegally. Later, they were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

At 12:25pm on Tuesday, the detainees were handed over to Haripur Police Station. Prior to that, between 11.00am and 12.00 noon, they were transferred from the BSF to the BGB during a flag meeting held at the Basatpur area of Haripur BOP, attended by company commanders.

The detainees are Md. Montu (40), his wife Mosammat Nazera Khatun (38), and their two sons Nazrul (22) and Nur Alam (19); Md. Abdur Razzak (24), his wife Najmin (20), and their two daughters Ruksar (3) and Rehena (1); Md. Asadul (35), his mother Achiia (50), wife Parul (32), and their three children Alamin Ali (16), Asha Moni (9), and Arif (5).

According to BGB sources, on the afternoon of August 11, the BSF detained the group approximately 1,200 yards inside Indian territory near border pillar 365/2 ES in the Kaderganj area, opposite the Betna BOP of the Thakurgaon Battalion (50 BGB). All the detainees are residents of Baliadangi Upazila in Thakurgaon district.

During initial questioning, the detainees said they worked at a factory in Panipat district, Haryana state, India, in 2020. They were caught while returning to Bangladesh recently.

Lieutenant Colonel Tanzir Ahmed, commander of the Thakurgaon 50 BGB battalion, said the detainees have been handed over to Haripur Police Station.
