BSF shoots Bangladeshi fisherman on Mahananda River

A Bangladeshi youth was injured in firing by the Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) while fishing in Mahananda River in Polla Danga area under Bholahat upazila in Chapainawabganj.

The incident took place at the wee hours of Saturday (February 17). The injured has been identified as Jahangir Alam (24), Son of Md Quddus and hailed from Kolni Para area in Bholahat. He is now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College and Hispital (RMCH), said police sources.

Bholahat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Suman Kumar said, “He was shot at hand by the BSF while fishing in the Mahananda River flowing between India and Bangladesh in the early hours of Saturday morning. Locals rescued him immediately and rushed him to Bholahat Health Complex.”

“The on duty doctor at the health complex referred him to RMCH for better treatment. The doctor at emergency ward of RMCH instructed to admit Jahangir to the surgery ward where he is now undergoing treatment,” the OC added.

He also said that the police have visited the spot after receiving the information.
