BSF takes away Bangladeshi youth from Chuadanga border
The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has detained a Bangladeshi youth from the Darshana-Gede border area of Chuadanga. The incident took place on Saturday evening in the area adjacent to the international check post.
The youth, Zulfiqar Ali,22, is the son of Kalu Maulvi of Joynagar village of Darshana municipality. He worked as a laborer in a local biscuit factory.
Locals claim that on Saturday afternoon, when he went to collect chalk in the border area with some others, BSF members chased them in the middle of the international check post. Eyewitnesses allege that Zulfiqar was detained while the others fled. They claim that he was beaten and taken inside India.
However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has given different information. Chuadanga-6 BGB Director Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan said that Zulfikar was trying to cut the security fence on the Indian side of the border along the railway line. At that time, BSF members detained him and handed him over to the Indian police.
He added that the matter is currently under legal process in India. It is expected that he will be sent back to Bangladesh as per normal procedure after the process is completed.
