BSMMU appoints Professor Shahinul Alam as acting VC

Professor Dr Shahinul Alam, the pro-vice-chancellor (Academic) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), has been appointed as the acting vice-chancellor of the university.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued an order in this regard on Wednesday. According to the order, he will serve in this capacity until further notice.

The order states that Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, the previous vice-chancellor of BSMMU, has been appointed as a special assistant with the rank of State Minister and delegated executive powers of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As per Section 13 of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Act, 1998, when the position of vice-chancellor is vacant, the senior-most Pro-Vice-Chancellor is to take over the role.

Accordingly, Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, the senior-most pro-vice-chancellor (Academic), has been entrusted with the responsibilities of acting vice-chancellor of BSMMU until further instructions.
